Nicola Smith

Nicky is a contracted researcher for NZCEE working on Auckland scenario modeling. She is enrolled in a PhD through NZCEE, which focuses on modelling global biogeochemical processes and their interactions with the world economy.

Nicky has 2½ years experience in resource management and planning in local government. With a background in law and environmental geography, Nicky is keenly interested in the way in which human activities result in resource depletion and environmental degradation and also the institutions that impact on these processes.

Her particular research interests include ecological economics, the modelling of environment-economy interactions and the development of analytical tools for moving towards sustainable development.

More information about Nicky's PhD research, "A Complex Systems Study of the Implications of Anthropogenic Perturbations of the Global Biogeochemical Cycles", can be found here.
