2000-2003 Urban Sustainability in Auckland: An Ecological Systems Perspective - $60,000

This research aims to establish an interpretation of urban sustainability for the Auckland region, based on an ecological systems perspective. The initial stages of this project involve a critical review of the ecological literature (e.g. complex systems, theory, eco-energetic, systems ecology) and juxtaposing this material with more traditional urban planning theory.

It is eventually, intended to develop a system dynamics model of the Auckland regions, based on an ecological systems perspective. This project is being sponsored by the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology's PhD Bright Future Scholarship. The recipient was Garry McDonald.
