2001 - 2002 Quantification of Ecosystem Services for the Waikato: A Demonstration Project - $70,000

The first objective for this project is to quantify in biophysical terms, the level of ecosystem services for the Waikato region, at various spatial scales (land parcel, farm-level, catchment, district, region). The next step will involve estimating the economic value of these ecosystem services for the Waikato region, at various spatial scales (land parcel, farm-level, catchment, district, region). At this stage, it is envisaged 17 ecosystem services would be used in the analysis.

The final phase of the project will involve incorporating this biophysical and economic data as layers in the Environmental Domains database, and as fields into the EcoLink database. This research, is been undertaken by Dr Murray Patterson and Dr Anthony Cole in collaboration with other Landcare personnel.
